Crankshaft Position Sensor – Dodge / Ram 1998-2001
These crankshaft position sensors accurately relay signals to the ECM, enabling it to calculate engine RPM, crankshaft position, and detect engine misfires.
Built with a permanent magnet, yoke, and coil, these sensors are mounted close to a toothed gear. As the gear’s teeth pass the sensor, AC voltage pulses are induced in the coil — one pulse per tooth.
The faster the gear rotates, the more pulses are generated. The ECM measures these pulses per second (signal frequency) to determine the component’s rotational speed.
