Power Driven Diesel’s new Billet Tappet Cover for 12v Cummins was created to resolve several issues presented by existing tappet covers on the market.
First, all of them require RTV on the bolts in order to not leak from under the heads. PDD’s Billet Tappet Cover uses o-rings under the bolt heads to ensure long term, leak-free performance.
Finally, economically-priced tappet covers offer nothing in the way of baffling for the crankcase breather ports. This results in excessive oil discharge from the crankcase. Correcting this requires installing a catch can or converting to overhead breathers. PDD’s new design features dual 3/4″ NPT ports and a basic baffle system that reduces oil discharge by as much as 60% relative to unbaffled ports, while keeping the price point competitive.
Tappet cover bolts torque to 18 ft-lbs. We recommend using small dabs of RTV in the corners to help hold the cord stock gasket in place during installation, and a dab where the cord overlaps to ensure leak-free installation. If the vent ports will be used, install the baffle plates using red Loctite on the screws.
